Description
The Bennington Flag, named for the Battle of Bennington in 1777, features thirteen stars in a blue canton and thirteen red and white stripes. Eleven of the stars form an arch over the numbers “76” (for 1776, the year of the Declaration of Independence,) with the remaining two stars above the arch. The Bennington Flag features seven white and six red stripes, unlike most US flags which have seven red and six white stripes.
The original Bennington Flag is on display at the Bennington Museum in Vermont.
